Have you ever seen a monster from old-school dungeons and dragons called an Umber Hulk? The thing about that monster was its ability to confuse anyone who faced it because of its particular eye configuration. It's something you have to see to understand, but the umber hulk has four eyes and it's difficult to know which are the correct orbs to look in to see if it's looking at you or not. Maybe the Mothman has the same ability!
